Let's keep in touch!
This is how we work in case of absence

Can't work and need to call in sick? This is called absence.

Together, we try to prevent this. But if you do end up absent from work, we stick together. We stay in touch and look out for each other. We make agreements and look at what you need to get back to work.

This is how we work in case of absence

Your manager is your contact person if you can't come to work. Together, you agree on how you'll stay in touch. And together, we look at what we can do.

You are responsible for:

  • Doing your best to be able to work.
  • Talking to your manager about what you're dealing with or any problems you have.
  • Telling your manager what you can still do.
  • Helping find solutions.
  • Keeping your contact details up to date.
  • Staying reachable.
  • Being available for appointments, also on site.
  • Making agreements with your manager and keeping them.

The first week

Day 1

Calling in

Always call your manager first.
Do this at least 1.5 hours before your shift starts. And no later than 09:00.

“When you can't be at work, we stay in touch. Together, we make sure you can get back to work.”

Discuss this together:

  • When do you think you can work again?
  • Does someone need to take over your work? Who do you think could do it?
  • What number can you be reached on?
  • Are you at home or somewhere else? If you're somewhere else, where are you?
  • When will you call each other again?
  • Can your manager help you with anything?

You also agree on what time you'll call on day 2 to give an update on how you're doing.

Do you work an early shift or at the weekend?
Then the time to call may be different. Follow the agreement you made with your manager.

  • Are there any medical reasons?

Missed the call?

  • Keeping to these agreements and being on time for meetings and appointments with the company doctor
  • Staying reachable by phone
  • Doing the work you can, even if it's only part of your work

What happens if you don't stick to the agreements?

It's important to follow the rules and agreements during absence.

If you don't, this can affect your pay. Two things can happen:

1. Your pay is temporarily held back. We call this wage suspension (loonopschorting).

This happens if you:

  • can't be reached
  • don't give enough information
  • don't keep to the agreements
  • don't cooperate

2. Your pay is stopped completely. We call this a wage stop (loonstop).

This happens if you:

  • don't cooperate with your return to work (reintegration)
  • deliberately don't keep to the agreements
  • don't cooperate and have no good reason for this
